About The Campaign
The Access to Broadband Campaign represents the interests of UK consumers in advocating the faster deployment of affordable broadband access throughout the entirety of the UK covering both urban and rural areas.
The UK government has set as a national goal the objective of making Britain the most competitive and extensive broadband market of all the G7 nations by 2005. Until recently, Britain ranked 4th amongst all G7 nations in broadband deployment, but as of May 2003 ranks 3rd. There are many competing interests (telecommunications companies, ISPs, UK Parliament, OFTEL, DT&I,large and small businesses etc.) influencing exactly how this goal of broadband supremacy will be achieved.
ABC is speaking out on behalf of UK consumers as to how universal and affordable high speed broadband Internet access can be best achieved. Importantly, ABC is also seeking to help bridge the digital divide by working with local communities to develop community broadband solutions and is providing support to these initiatives through the Association of Broadband Communities section of this website as well as direct involvement in some of these community initiatives.
