The Broadband Community Connections Workshop & Seminar

Document Actions
Tuesday 16th November 2004, 9.30am – 5.30pm at the Wharfe Room, Pavilions of Harrogate, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate

The ABC & CBN, in partnership with Yorkshire Forward, are holding this event to demonstrate the community-level broadband solutions opportunities presented and the benefits of broadband to people in communities across Yorkshire & Humberside.

Right across the region, broadband is bringing changes that will:-

  • Bring information and improved communications to individuals, businesses and groups.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of businesses through new applications and improved communications.
  • This technology is tried and tested - not new technology - so enabled exchanges and new users should have no technical worries. There are good affordable alternatives to ADSL where it's not available.

The workshops and seminar are focussed on explaining, in plain language:-

  • How to bring broadband to communities – with a particular focus on small towns, villages and hamlets not being served by ADSL (over the telephone line) broadband.
  • What financial support and advice is available to bring broadband connectivity to your community.
  • How to engage with potential broadband users in your community and engage them in broadband opportunities.
  • Practical solutions to a range of ICT, internet and broadband issues such as:
    1. Protecting yourself from SPAM (unwanted mail)
    2. Protecting yourself from VIRUS attacks

Who should attend

This event is ideal for any community that cannot get broadband or is interested in or is looking at making it happen.  If you represent or belong to one of the listed communities, you should be at this seminar to find out what can be done to get broadband to you... and then, what you can do with it!

These exchange areas and the communities within them are not going to get broadband without intervention! Arncliffe, Bilsdale, Blubberhouses, Brandsby, Burnsall, Coverdale, Cracoe, Goathland, Hackness, Horton in Ribblesdale, Jervaulx, Langtoft, Lockton, North Grimston, North Stainley, Nunnington, Ramsgill, Sawley, Sykehouse, Tibthorpe, Wainstones, West Heslerton.

Other communities, be they rural or urban, may also be interested in developing similar approaches and are invited to attend. People working in rural policy, economic development and regeneration are welcome.

This event is free to all in the Yorkshire and Humber region and we promise to pitch the event at a non-technical audience (and we will have a  "jargon swear box" for any speaker or sponsor who uses technical jargon in preference to plain English).

Delegates from outside Yorkshire & Humberside will need to pay £58.75 inc VAT. Cheques to "Conference-events.biz"
