Cochrane warms up for The End Game

Peter Cochrane this week tackles the subject behind The End Game - "The UK's a broadband leader. Really?" Unmissable blogging as ever which should make a few people in industry and Government start wondering about their clarity of thinking on this issue

....and we hope they will join those now registering for The End Game conference to hear more from a wide range of experts about the problems facing us as a nation, and the solutions and best practice for a true broadband Britain.

We cannot ignore the developments in Korea, Japan and many other countries, just as we couldn't dismiss those nations' progress in other industries eg automotive, textiles, manufacturing etc.

The digital divide within the UK is growing as urban areas get 24Mbps and there are still many in rural areas who are lucky to get 1/2Mbps, but more importantly perhaps the digital divide between Britain and an ever-growing number of countries is steadily becoming a chasm. And we should be worried about it.

This is not about apportioning blame, although there are without doubt some who should be shouldering some of it. It is about seeking the right way forward for UK Plc, before it is too late to catch up in a reasonable timeframe.

The End Game looks to 2012, when we host the Olympics, when analogue TV is switched off, and when broadband communications and connections will need to be an integral part of everyone's daily lives, and asks:

"Are we constructing a future for our children in which they can compete?  Are we building the future? Will UK Plc be in the running in 2012? Are we training our businesses, citizens, and civil servants to win the broadband race? Are we going for gold?"

BOOK YOUR PLACE NOW at The End Game Conference on November 22nd, CityPoint, London. There are only 150 places available.
