The Access to Broadband Campaign and the Community Broadband Network, supported by DTI and Defra, invite you to:

A top-level briefing designed for senior executives in Industry and Government, business leaders and the wider community

DTI Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1

on 2nd March 2005 at 12:30

Networks springing up all over

The future of networks?

CBN has commissioned the first ever survey of Community Broadband networking activity.  We found more networks, doing more things, with more users than anyone expected.  These networks are driving take-up and use, new applications and content and supporting social inclusion.  This has implications for decisions being made by government, industry and the regulator.  Come along and hear what community networks are doing, why and where they’re going.

The event will include:

  • CBN's Survey of Community Networks across the UK and report on activities
  • Government's view of the role of community networks
  • ABC's "Manifesto for the Middle Mile"; a call for radical change in how networks can deliver abundance
  • Out and About - view from real projects developing services and business 'on the ground'
  • Digital Inclusion - the state of the debate with contributions from the BSG and policy makers

Speakers include:

Nigel Griffiths MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Construction, Small Business and Enterprise.

Malcolm Corbett, Director of the Community Broadband Network who will brief you about the results of the survey and the implications for the future.

Nigel Heriz-Smith, Deputy Director, Broadband Policy, DTI.

Antony Walker, who leads the Broadband Stakeholders' Group.

Rick Smith, from RegenTV, a ground-breaking community TV project that's a practical example of the benefits of digital inclusion.
