Slow but sure progress in Hawes
We started trying to connect Hawes to a mesh network on Nov 5th 2002 - seems like light years ago now! The local community haven't grasped the potential of a community network and it doesn't help when the two community champions for Hawes don't actually live anywhere near!
However, the first meshboxes have been in for over 6 months with a satellite backhaul, and our hope springs eternal that in 2005 we will show what a mixed backhaul mesh can do with wireless, DSL and satellite bringing real redundancy and load balancing into play across a wider area than copper can offer faster Internet connections.
